LUCCA
is a delightful little Tuscan city. It is, moreover, situated within easy
reach of the beaches of Versilia and the mountains on the border of Tuscany
and Emilia as well as the art centres of Pisa, Florence, and Siena. Visitors
to Lucca can be sure of having an enjoyable and interesting time.
Lucca dates back to Etruscan times and in the middle of the sixteenth
century it became an oligarchic republic. It was during this time that
Lucca began to build the Walls which survive to this day in all their
symbolic and sombre beauty.
The EUROPEAN SCHOOL is within these Walls, in the heart of this ancient
city, creating its own traditions of quality and dedication. Throughout
the years since its foundation in 1963, our professionalism and expertise
have steadily grown. Our teaching methods are based on the direct method
and designed to enable our students to learn how to speak and write Italian
naturally.
Our
TEACHERS are Italian, graduated in Italian or qualified to teach Italian
as a foreign language. Our success in this field is due to their professionalism
and to the related activities which are organized by the school. The atmosphere
at the European School is both friendly and professional and the teachers
and administrative staff are always ready to help students in any way.
Because we at the European School love Lucca and her famous sons, we have
included courses with Puccini as their theme in our programme. These courses
are intended for people who love Puccini and would like to learn more
about him, whether for work or for personal interest, while studying Italian.
The courses are called
I PUCCINIANIŽ
GENERAL ITALIAN
Courses in General Italian consist of 20 hours of instruction per week,

at the beginning of the course does a written test and is interviewed in
order to determine his or her level of competence. The maximum number in
